Trump’s government is dealing with Russia on all levels
As President Trump’s associates are tapped for inquiries into communications with Russian government officials who sought to meddle in the November election, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of staff will meet Thursday with his top Russian military officials in Azerbaijan. Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford will discuss “the current state of U.S.-Russian military relations and clear military-to-military communication to prevent miscalculation and potential crises,” according to the Pentagon. The meeting comes as the Pentagon deals with increasing tensions with Russians over their deployment of banned nuclear-tipped cruise missiles, Russian warplanes buzzing U.S. ships in the Black Sea and the allegations of Russian attempts to interfere in the U.S. presidential election.
Man expected to plead guilty to providing guns in San Bernardino terror attack
A man is expected to plead guilty Thursday to providing the high-powered rifles used to kill 14 people in the San Bernardino terror attack. Enrique Marquez Jr., 25, from Riverside, Calif., is the only person criminally charged in the deadly Dec. 2015 rampage that also wounded 22 people. Husband-and-wife assailants Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik were killed in a gunfight with authorities. Marquez is also accused of plotting mass killings with Farook several years earlier that were never carried out. He is due to appear in federal court in Riverside after signing a plea agreement with prosecutors, who said there is no evidence Marquez participated in the San Bernardino massacre or had advance knowledge of it.
First male doll debuts in American Girl line
First Ken teamed up with Barbie, now Logan is joining the array of American Girl doll as its first male character. On Thursday, “Logan Everett” will debut as a drummer who performs with “Tenney Grant,” a budding country singer who also is new to the line. The company sees the 18-inch doll, which has Beatles-like brown hair and gray eyes, as a way to please long-time fans as well as gain a broader audience.
California town facing storm after Lake Oroville crisis
The California town that recently evacuated, then reopened after the potential collapse of a Lake Oroville spillway is expecting a storm Thursday. President Trump declared a federal disaster Tuesday, while residents returned home two days after nearly 200,000 downstream residents were ordered to evacuate. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning through Saturday, with up to three-quarters of an inch of rain projected to fall Thursday.
Protest aims to illustrate day without immigrants
Activists across the country are pushing immigrants to boycott work, school and shopping Thursday to mark “A Day Without Immigrants.” Organizers planned the demonstration in response to President Trump’s policies proposing a crackdown on immigration in hopes of showing the impact immigrants have on the economy. Events are planned in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Austin, Texas, and other cities across the country.
